What is Jelly Beach?
Jelly Beach is a short trading game based of one of John Roche’s poem, Ode to a Jelly Donut, where you wander through boardwalk, exploring childlike joy, and aim to obtain a jelly donut!
Jelly Beach is part of an ongoing student-led vertically integrated project, echoes, at RIT. echoes aims to create community inspired games that reflect the deep meaningful impacts these members have had on us, while allowing students to collaborate in cross-functional agile teams and foster stronger industry and professional skills.
Role: Game Designer, Game Developer, 2D Artist
- Designed level design, world layout, borders, and trading routes
- Collaboratively created a unique narrative without the use of text in NPC interactions
- Adjusted pre-existing player movement controls to include running, Created simple NPC follower movement, and implemented parallax sky effects
- Designed majority of 2D assets and animations, keeping a consistent 16x16 pixel style, and integrated them into Unity
- Received mentorship and guidance from upperclassmen, ensuring quality along every step
- Utilized GitHub version control to easily facilitate shared efforts across teams,
- Attended bi-weekly playtests, implemented select feedback and engaged with iterative design processes
